Okay take it away Tessa....
Youth is said to be a time for self discovery. The route I’ve taken to help discover myself is through fashion. Fashion has taught me a lot:
Respect: Respect for myself and my body. I have learned that when I dress in a way that I’m not exploiting myself or my body I have found that people will respect me more. You can still appreciate fashion and still be modest at the same time.
Adventure: Fashion has helped me be more adventurous. To be honest, I’m probably one of the biggest scared-y cats you’ll ever meet. I never rode a roller coaster until I was ten and most people wouldn’t even consider what I rode a roller coaster! My love for fashion has taught me to push myself. I have learned to love pairing different pieces of clothing together that most people would have never thought of before.
Individuality: I attend a high school of over 2,400 students; I don’t like looking like everyone else that walks the halls. I like using fashion as a way to set myself apart from the crowd. As a teenager or even as adults, you shouldn’t feel like you have to shop at the same stores and dress the same way everyone else does. I’ve done it and it didn’t last long. I felt like I wasn’t making, in a way, my mark on the world by blending in with the crowd.
I admit, I love clothes and I have a closet FULL of clothes but there are certain items in my wardrobe that I consider essential or staples – things I wear over and over again.
Flower Pins: I wear these ALL the time. It works for a hair piece as well as a brooch type pin. I wear one by itself or group a few of them together. It adds a fun, feminine and vintage look to an outfit.
Belts/ Scarves: Adding a cute belt to an outfit ties it together. Add it to a skirt, dress, or pants. On a lazy day I just add a scarf to a simple outfit and it changes the whole aspect of the outfit. Tying the scarf in different ways can change up an outfit too and add interest. Scarves and belts are inexpensive ways to stretch your wardrobe.
Breton Stripe Top: I seriously would wear this shirt every single day. I love it so much and it goes with everything. It looks good just with jeans, with a printed skirt, under a dress, and with anything else you can imagine. It is a must have fashion item for this spring/summer season!
Cardigans: Rain or shine, I’m almost always wearing a cardigan. Wear one over a dress on a cool day or over a t-shirt when I want to be a little more casual.
Take Risks! Have fun, be crazy (but not too crazy, no one likes to be on the worst dress list). Getting dressed should be fun, not a chore!

I love Totally Tessa. I get so excited every time I see a new post from her in my google reader. I also love that she has her style already put together! I'm 22 and my style is still evolving! If only I could have been as put together as she is when I was her age. :) Great guest post, Chels!
I agree with Dallin and Ashley. I sure wish I had had the confidence and grace that Tessa has at her age. My goodness....I can only imagine how much fun I would have had then.
