Top 5 Father's Day Finalists

I appreciate all of the men who are willing to be nominated or nominated themselves for the Father's Day Makeover.  I am really excited about the Top 5, and hope that you are too! I will do the sponsor post later today....I promise.  The winner gets day tandem kayak rental, teeth whitening, new outfit, new shoes, day at the spa, haircut/color, and a photo-shoot.  Without further ado...
Bill
I am nominating my sweet husband Bill for your Fathers' Day makeover because, well, he needs it, not because he deserves it. (He told me to say that.) Bill is a 31 year old father of two. He goes to school and works full-time. Needless to say he is a busy guy. He is also a no-nonsense, no frills kind of guy who doesn't put much thought into frivolous things like clothes. I love the man, but quite often I have to do a Clothes Intervention before we go anywhere. Just last week I caught him just in the nick of time, about to walk out the door to a family function in his church slacks, church shoes and a casual t-shirt. He only buys clothes at Walmart, and only in the colors grey or black. Any nice, new clothes he gets, within a month he's ruined them by wearing them to work. Then, because he has no nice clothes anymore, he wears the paint-spattered, holey clothes to nice events. He wears shorts all winter long and refuses to wear a jacket, even if it's snowing. He will wear clothes that look like they were wadded up into a ball when they were wet, and dried that way, and shrugs his shoulders when I mention it.

He has a very hard time accepting and adapting to new styles that come along. He tends to find a style he likes and sticks with it for ten years, despite the fact that everyone else has long since moved on. I can't count the number of carpenter pants still hanging in our closet and worse, still being worn. He also convinces himself that certain styles and colors won't look good on him, and cannot be convinced otherwise. Basically this includes anything that is in style right now, or has been in the last ten years. My amazing husband is the sweetest, most caring, hard-working man I know who will always drop whatever he's doing, no matter what it is, to help someone who needs it. I have never known a more selfless person. No one, in my humble opinion, deserves to win this more than Bill. It would be the perfect Father's Day gift for a wonderful father, and husband, who would never dream of doing anything like this for himself. And, frankly, I'm running out of ways to subtly say, "Ummm...is that what you're going to wear?" if you know what I mean.

Ben
(You may have seen Ben featured on this site before with some before pictures, but it looks like he still hasn't moved past the before photos, so here he is...)
I am nominating my Dad, Ben for the Father's Day makeover because he NEEDS it so bad. He is 55 years old, and lives in Basin City. Where we live it isn't exactly on the cutting edge of fashion. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we live 40 minutes from the nearest clothing store. My dad's problem with his appearance has been present his entire life, and I want it to come to an end. He doesn't care what he looks like most of the time, and will only wear nice clothes if he is going to a gathering, church, etc. Many times, he just slaps on a XL t-shirt with holes in it and some stained jeans and goes about the day in complete bliss (more like utter chaos). He is unaware that he may be getting chuckled at behind his back, not only from his family, but from others around him. My mother is constantly trying to get him to wear decent clothes, but he flat out refuses because it is much easier to wear what is convienient. He has little time to go shopping, and even if he did, I highly doubt he would be able to pick out anything stylish or trendy. He still lives in the dark ages of fashion, and an update of his wardrobe would help open his eyes a little, but hopefully a lot. My father meets with a lot of people every day, and a makeover would help with first impressions. Chelsea has already tried to help him out, but to no avail. A complete makeover for my dad would really make his Fathers Day a great one! As my dad's younger brother said, "good luck with this guy, he's a piece of work."
Benny

This feels really silly to do, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm a 32 year old single guy who recently, well in the last year, graduated from graduate school and am now working. I think because my focus was concentrated so heavily on my studies I neglected my fashion and style for about ten years and feel like I've awoken to find my self a little outdated. I don't know what to do with my hair...well my hair has always been an issue, I've always cut it, styled it and even highlighted it myself. (not pretty) In fact I've never payed for a haircut in my entire life. My mom cut it when I was younger and then in highschool I started cutting it myself. Now I just let it grow out until I can hold it in a fist and trim it with scissors in the mirror. My clothes could sure use a makeover, at least thats what I'm told. I think they're fine, and they probably were fine ten years ago. If I could get some help on updating my wardrobe that would be nice, so I don't feel like I'm dressing like a guy who's mother picked out his clothes. I know this is a Father's Day Makeover and for that reason alone I might not qualify for the contest, but as I see it this may be the one crucial step to help me get to that stage in my life. So for plea for fashion help from a guy who's a little outdated, please vote for me.
(Benny is the oldest son of 12 children, so that alone qualifies him for a Father's Day makeover).

Paul
I’d like to nominate my dad, Paul Baker of Pasco, WA for the Father’s Day makeover. Over the past few years my dad has had several trials and a makeover would boost his spirits tremendously and make him feel better about himself. He has suffered from anxiety and depression most of his adult life and it is now known to be because of a tumor. In December he had surgery, and is slowly recovering. He has not had any heart problems, anxiety or depression challenges since the operation. In addition to the healthcare trials, my dad has been single for over 20 years and has always been a hard worker. He would take vacation time from his regular job to go work on the farm, which he loves to do. During the past 10 years he has helped take care of his parents. His mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1995 and his dad passed away in 2007. As his only daughter, he and I have been very close, after my Grandpa’s funeral my family and I moved to Utah. This was really hard on him and the added stress was making him sick.

Since October he has not been able to work and is going stir crazy and is now faced with a huge financial burden. He lost his job due to his recent health problems and at his age it’s been a challenge for him to find employment, but everyday he is out there looking, talking to people, never giving up hope. As a single man he doesn’t have a feminine touch around to suggest what to wear and being in a tough spot financially can’t purchase new clothing right now. His wardrobe suffers because of this. It would benefit him in his job search to have this makeover. My dad is a loving, service oriented, gentle, sensitive person, who loves his family very much, especially his 2 grandchildren. It would mean the world to him, to have a fresh start and a new found confidence with this makeover. Thank you for considering my father for this makeover.

Tim
Even though he may not need a complete full makeover I want to enter my husband Tim, into the great Father's Day pampering treatment. He is a great husband, and an excellent father. He is a police officer who puts his life on the line every time he puts on his uniform and goes to work. There he works hard to keep the streets safe for us and our children. On his days off he spends all of his time playing with our son and encouraging me to take advantage of every opportunity to relax and pamper myself (I didn't mention that I'm 7 months pregnant). He sends me to get weekly massages and always encourages me to buy myself something pretty or to get my hair done. He is selfless. When we were dating he really cared about his appearance, but has learned that making me feel good about myself makes him happier. He is a truly loving and caring man and for that reason entering him in your makeover.

If I were 20 years younger, I'd ask you to give Benny my phone number. He doesn't need a makeover, are you kidding?????

Julie, I had to BEG people to enter this makeover. I guess men are just more stubborn. I thought I'd only have a top 3, but at the last minute two more guys jumped on board. I'll take what I can get. If you know of any eligible single ladies, Benny is a great catch!

Benny, I'll take you to get a haircut ;)

I'm going to vote for a dad, but Chelsea, I think Benny would be easy to makeover (not as a contest, just give him some pointers!) and I would surely be entertained.

This is a great idea!!! Oh and tell Benny I know some girls who would be happy to date him, even if his mom did pick out his clothes! =)

This is so funny! Funny because I know both Ben and Benny. Benny is a great catch, I've been telling my husband (Benny's good friend) for years he just needs something different with his hair. I didn't know he was cutting it himself!

I'm related to both of them... Hope they tie and split up the makeover. If a haircut is what Benny wants then he get's it, they won't be able to give it to Ben anyway...

Paul all the way!! I don't know any of them so this isn't even biased. He is the one who NEEDS it. Everyone else is just a nice guy who is comfortable with himself.
